Résidence internationale 2024 | Les deux premières semaines

Pour cette année 2024, l’Association Françoise pour l’œuvre contemporaine accueille Agatoak Ronny Kowspi et Robin Chiphowka Kowspi, deux artistes de Papouasie-Nouvelle-Guinée, pour une résidence de deux mois à la Cité internationale des arts à Paris, en partenariat avec l’Institut Français. 

Les artistes sont arrivés à Paris le mardi 6 février.

Le lendemain de leur arrivée, une première course de matériel artistique : toiles et papiers, pinceaux, peinture acrylique, afin de permettre aux artistes de commencer à peindre.

Le jeudi soir, les deux frères étaient présents au vernissage de l’exposition Les Chambres de Verre à la Casa de Velasquez avec les artistes résidents de la 93e promotion de l’Académie de France à Madrid. Parmi eux, Stéphanie Mansy, artiste Françoise avec qui les artistes réaliseront un workshop en mars.

Vendredi, Agatoak et Robin ont découvert les locaux de la Fondation Francès à Clichy, où seront exposées – en parallèle de Senlis – une partie de leurs œuvres à partir du 23 février. Après une visite guidée de l’exposition Je ne suis pas ce que tu vois de moi, c’était au tour des deux artistes de parler de leurs œuvres et des mythes qui les ont inspirés : un moment d’échange et de partage face aux œuvres. 

L’après-midi, les artistes se sont rendus aux portes ouvertes des ateliers de la Cité Internationale des Arts à Montmartre après une visite du quartier qu’ils ont pris plaisir à découvrir. Les portes ouvertes étaient l’occasion pour eux de rencontrer d’autres artistes et d’échanger sur leur pratique respective.

La deuxième semaine, dès mardi matin, les artistes ont pu visiter le MAC VAL et découvrir les pratiques contemporaines de Hans Hartung, Jean Dubuffet et encore des Nouveaux Réalistes (Daniel Spoerri, Arman, César). Dans l’après-midi, chez Marin, à Arcueil, ils ont complété leur matériel artistique.

Le lendemain, c’est en compagnie de la commissaire d’exposition Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez, qu’Agatoak et Robin ont pu découvrir l’exposition “La Mémoire des Hauts-fonds”, où sont notamment présentés des oeuvres de leur père Raymond Marek Kowspi.

Deux premières semaines en somme, riches en rencontres et découvertes !

Artistic residency 2024 – an overview of the first two weeks 

For this year 2024, l’Association Françoise pour l’œuvre contemporaine welcomes Agatoak Ronny Kowspi and Robin Chiphowka Kowspi, two artists from Papua New Guinea, for an artistic residency of two months at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, in partnership with the French Institute.

The two artists arrived on the 6th of February. The following day, they went shopping for artistic materials such as canvases, papers, brushes, and acrylic to begin their painting and artistic research at the Cité.

Thursday evening, the two brothers went to the vernissage of the exhibition Les Chambres de Verre, at the Casa de Velazquez, with the resident artists of the 93rd class of the Académie de France in Madrid. Among those, Stéphanie Mansy, an artist Françoise with whom the invited artists will do a workshop in March. 

On Friday, Agatoak and Robin discovered the site of the Fondation Francès in Clichy, where there will be exhibited – in parallel to Senlis – part of their works starting from the 23rd of February. After the guided visit of the exhibition Je ne suis pas ce que tu vois de moi, the two talked about their artworks and the myths that inspire them: un exchange and sharing in front of the artworks. 

In the afternoon, the artists went to the open day of the ateliers of the Cité Internationale des Arts in Montmartre, after a visit to the district of Montmartre that they were happy to explore. The open day was also an opportunity for them to meet other artists and discuss their respective practices

The second week, from Tuesday morning, the artists visited the MAC VAL and discover the contemporary practices of Hans Hartung, Jean Dubuffet, New Realists (Daniel Spoerri, Arman, César). In the afternoon, they completed their purchases of artistic materials. 

The next day, Agatoak and Robin were joined by curator Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez to discover the exhibition “La Mémoire des Hauts-fonds”, which includes works by their father Raymond Marek Kowspi.

Two weeks rich in encounters and discoveries!
