Fabien Bouguennec

Fabien Bouguennec, born in 1988 in Vannes, is a multidisciplinary artist currently based in Evellys, France. Specializing in painting, sculpture, drawing, and animation, Bouguennec is best known for his innovative use of oil painting, where he applies several very thin, transparent layers to create depth and nuance. His artistic practice also includes traditional sketching techniques such as silverpoint, charcoal, oil, and clay, combined with contemporary and futuristic themes. Additionally, he utilizes animation and digital tools to bring life and movement to his subjects, creating immersive environments.

Bouguennec's work is characterized by a blend of surrealism and symbolism, depicting faceless characters within landscapes where elements and creatures appear to levitate on large canvases. This unique approach to oil painting, marked by its thin layers and transparency, invites viewers to explore deeper layers of meaning and emotion within the characters. His subject matter delves into themes of transcendence, metaphysics, and the origin of life across different dimensions and worlds, influenced by surrealist masters such as Giorgio De Chirico, Salvador Dali, and Max Ernst. An important project in his career is the "Strange Creatures" series (2008-2013), which features ethereal characters seamlessly integrated into their environments, serving as a foundation for Bouguennec's ongoing explorations in aesthetics and thematic concepts.

Fabien Bouguennec has exhibited his work in several renowned institutions, including the Limlip Museum and the CICA Museum in Korea, and has participated in gallery exhibitions worldwide, such as at Gallery70 in Albania, Galerie Menouar at Paris and Galerie Sainte Anne at Malestroit in France. His art is part of public collections at Centre Morbihan Communauté in France and private collections at the CICA Museum in Korea, as well as various private national and international collections. Bouguennec has also participated in the GIAF in Korea, Carte Blanche residency in France, and art fairs in Paris, New York, and Miami, further establishing his presence in the global art scene.
