The call for application for our international residency program in Paris is ending on Wednesday 18th of October 2023.

Designed by the INSTITUT FRANÇAIS and the CITÉ INTERNATIONALE DES ARTS DE PARIS, the program is dedicated to international artists, living exclusively abroad, who wish to develop a research and creative project in Paris, for a period of three months.

About the residency program 

Every year, the ASSOCIATION FRANÇOISE POUR L’ŒUVRE CONTEMPORAINE accompany one to three artists in a residency program organized by the INSTITUT FRANÇAIS at the CITÉ INTERNATIONALE DES ARTS in Paris.

In 2022, the association welcomed two Austrian artists: Nanna Kaiser and Max Freund. In 2023, we invited Hinda Weiss, in partnership with artport, an art center based in Tel Aviv.

Residency details

The INSTITUT FRANÇAIS covers the cost of studio accommodation at the Cité internationale. The studio apartments available are about 40m2 in size and include a workspace, a furnished living area (bedroom, bathroom, kitchen) and a WiFi internet connection.

The ASSOCIATION FRANÇOISE provides financial support for part of the artists’ residency, including the travel expenses and a living allowance each month. Throughout their stay, the association assists the artists in their creations and projects, sharing their work virtually (social networks, website, newsletter) and physically through meetings, workshops and exhibitions.

A residency contract will be established between the artist and the association, specifying the stipend provided by the association (1000 €/month) and the other covered expenses (materials, transports etc.)

The association Françoise pour l’œuvre contemporaine

Founded in 2015, Françoise pour l’œuvre contemporaine‘s main mission is to accompany emerging artists towards their markets. It supports emerging contemporary creation through its private and public professional networks, its international competition, its programme of creation and research residencies as well as its numerous exhibitions in partnership with, among others, the Fondation Francès and Galerie F.

Its actions are based on a platform called francoiseartmemo.fr. This platform serves both as a showcase for the works and news of registered artists and as a relay for calls for projects from institutions and companies. It puts the artists in contact with art professionals, but also with companies within the framework of various projects aiming to make their work known or to promote it.

HOW TO APPLY TO THE RESIDENCY PROGRAM

• Applications are free and only opened to international artists, living exclusively abroad (out of France)
• Artists may submit a research and creative project in the following disciplines: visual arts, comics, cinema, curating, dance, design, graphic design, literature, crafts, fashion, music, photography.
• Each candidate must submit a complete file including:
• Application form with the artist’s short biography and a short presentation of their residency project – see page 3
• Portfolio
• CV
• Copy of the passport
• After review by a selection committee, an average of five applications are selected. The artists will then be invited to individual online interviews to discuss and draw up their residency project. The association will then forward the completed files to the relevant structures.

L’ASSOCIATION FRANÇOISE soutient financièrement une partie de la résidence des artistes, notamment les frais de voyage et une allocation de subsistance mensuelle. Tout au long de leur séjour, l’association accompagne les artistes dans leurs créations et leurs projets, en partageant leur travail virtuellement (réseaux sociaux, site internet, newsletter) et physiquement par le biais de rencontres, d’ateliers et d’expositions.

Un contrat de résidence sera établi entre l’artiste et l’association, précisant l’allocation fournie par l’association (1000 €/mois) et les autres dépenses couvertes (matériel, transports, etc.).

L’association Françoise pour l’œuvre contemporaine

Fondée en 2015, Françoise pour l’œuvre contemporaine a pour mission principale d’accompagner les artistes vers leurs marchés. Elle soutient la création contemporaine émergente à travers ses réseaux professionnels privés et publics, son concours international, son programme de résidence de création et de recherche ainsi que ses nombreuses expositions en partenariat notamment avec la Fondation Francès et la Galerie F.

Ses actions s’appuient sur une plateforme appelée francoiseartmemo.fr. Cette plateforme sert à la fois de vitrine pour les œuvres et l’actualité des artistes inscrit·e·s et de relais pour les appels à projets des institutions et des entreprises. Elle met en relation les artistes avec des professionnels de l’art, mais aussi avec des entreprises dans le cadre de différents projets visant à faire connaître ou à promouvoir leur travail.

COMMENT POSTULER AU PROGRAMME DE RÉSIDENCE ? 

• Les candidatures sont gratuites et ouvertes uniquement aux artistes internationaux vivant exclusivement à l’étranger (hors de France).
• Les artistes peuvent soumettre un projet de recherche et de création dans les disciplines suivantes : arts visuels, bande dessinée, cinéma, commissariat d’exposition, danse, design, graphisme, littérature, artisanat, mode, musique, photographie.
• Chaque candidat·e doit soumettre un dossier complet comprenant :
  _Le formulaire de candidature avec une courte biographie de l’artiste et une courte présentation de son projet de résidence – voir page 3
  _Un portfolio
  _Un CV
  _Copie du passeport
• Après examen par un comité de sélection, cinq candidatures en moyenne sont retenues. Les artistes seront alors invité·e·s à des entretiens individuels en ligne pour discuter et élaborer leur projet de résidence. L’association transmettra ensuite les dossiers complets aux structures concernées.
