Résidence internationale 2024 | Semaine 3

Pour cette année 2024, l’Association Françoise pour l’œuvre contemporaine accueille Agatoak Ronny Kowspi et Robin Chiphowka Kowspi, deux artistes de Papouasie-Nouvelle-Guinée, pour une résidence de deux mois à la Cité internationale des arts à Paris, en partenariat avec l’Institut Français.

La semaine a débuté avec une visite de Komunuma, un lieu consacré à l’art contemporain et regroupant des galeries, les Réserves du FRAC Ile-de-France et la Fondation Fiminco, fondée en 2019. Parmi ces nombreux espaces culturels, les frères Kowspi ont pu visiter les expositions Volume Invisible à la galerie Jocelyn Wolff et Present à Air de Paris. Ils ont également eu l’opportunité d’avoir une visite guidée de l’exposition 40 ans du Frac ! Gunaikeîon au Frac Ile-de-France, visite qui leur a beaucoup plu!

Le lendemain, le mercredi 21 février, les deux artistes ont rencontré Romain Bernini, artiste et chef d’atelier aux Beaux Arts de Paris. Ils ont découvert l’école et différents ateliers techniques en sa compagnie avant de commencer à organiser avec lui le premier workshop de leur résidence. Ce workshop qui a eu lieu aux Beaux-Arts les 26 et 27 février avait pour sujet l’interprétation du vivant.

Le vendredi 23 février les Kowspi ont rencontré et échangé avec la directrice de la Cité Internationale des Arts, Bénédicte Aillot. 

Le lendemain, Robin et Agatoak ont fait la connaissance de l’artiste Nathalie Leroy Fievee, exposée dans La Mémoire des hauts-fonds, à la Cité Internationale des Arts. Chacun a présenté son travail (y compris de leur père), cet échange a permis de voir les connexions qu’il y avait dans leurs œuvres : les mythes, une tradition picturale qui se transmet de génération en génération, ou encore la présence des yeux dans leurs peintures.

Le vendredi marque aussi l’ouverture de l’exposition des œuvres des Kowspi à la Galerie F. à Senlis (Hauts-de-France), présentant des pièces issues de la collection de l’Association Françoise et de la Fondation Francès réalisées entre 2003 et 2016. L’exposition est ouverte du mercredi au samedi de 11h à 19h.

Durant cette semaine, Agatoak a commencé à travailler sur une toile autour du roman Le Portrait du Dorian Gray d’Oscar Wilde.

For this year 2024, the Association Francoise pour l’œuvre contemporaine welcomes Agatoak Ronny Kowspi and Robin Chiphowka Kowspi, two artists from Papua-New-Guinea, in an art residency of two months at the Cité Internationale des arts in Paris, in partnership with the Institut Français.

During their third week in France, the artists explored Komunuma (Romainville), a dynamic place, regrouping galleries, the FRAC’s stocks and the artist residency Fondation Fiminco, founded in 2019 in an industrial site of almost 11 000 squared metres. Among these multiple cultural spaces, the brothers Kowspi could visit of visiting the exhibitions Volume Invisible, at the gallery Jocelyn Wolff and Present at the gallery Air de Paris. They also had the special opportunity of visiting, through a guided visit, the exhibition 40 ans du Frac ! Gunaikeion, visit that they particularly loved. 

The day afterwards, Wednesday 21st, the two artists met Romain Bernini, artist and chief of atelier, at the Beaux-Arts of Paris. They discovered the School and its different ateliers in his company, and then they dedicated some time to discuss and organise with him the first workshop linked to the residency’s project, which was held by Romain Bernini himself and took place at the Beaux-Arts of Paris the 26th and the 27th of February. 

Friday the 23rd, Robin and Agatoak met the director of the Cité Internationale des Arts, Bénédicte Aillot. They also met the artist Nathalie Leroy Fievee, who’s currently exhibited in the exhibition La Mémoire des hauts-fonds, at the Cité Internationale des Arts. They presented their works (including the pieces from their father) and this exchange allowed them to find connections in their artworks: myths, a pictorial tradition that is transmitted from generation to generation, or the presence of the eyes in their paintings. These encounters acquire an important relevance in the context of this residency, nourishing and stimulating new artistic creations.

On Friday it also occurred the opening of the exhibition dedicated to the Kowspi at the Galerie F. in Senlis (Hauts-de-France), presenting some pieces issued from the collection of the Association Françoise and the Fondation Francès conceived between 2003 and 2016. The exhibition is open from Wednesday to Saturday from 11h to 19h.

During this week, Agatoak started to work on a piece around the novel The portrait of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde.
